Todays
teenagers face more challenges than ever before.
A growing number of boys have been labeled "aggressive,"
"obstinate," and "reckless." Their behaviors
can range from
lying, starting fights, and truancy, to running away, vandalism,
and threats of violence.
Most of these boys are not anti-social. They are good kids
who do not have the coping skills to navigate lifes challenges.
Theyve lost track of their love for their families,
their future, and most of all, themselves.
In working with at-risk adolescents and their parents, I have
found two key challenges.
1) Parents must restore their authority
to stop extreme
behaviors.
2) Parents must promote a nurturing
parent-child
relationship.
